Just a Mom

Yesterday it hit me. We were leaving Colton’s baseball game and I was thinking about all the “boy” things he has done and will do and how I am not just a boy mom anymore.

When Leslie and I got married we knew we wanted kids, just healthy happy kids, I didn’t really have a preference. Being the youngest of 4 I have 7 nieces and nephews that I have taken care of over the years so I was prepared for a boy or a girl.

When we found out we pregnant with Colton in 2011 we were so excited. My husband who is and avid hunter and lover of sports was even more excited when we found out we were having a boy. I still remember his face lighting up at the doctor when she pointed out that tell tale sign.

Fast forward to this time last year, we were pregnant again and this time I kind of hoped for a girl. I always thought it would have been nice to have an older brother closer in age to me (my brothers are 17 and 14 years older than me…more on that another day) so I was hoping that Colton would get a little sister to take care of. To my surprise that is what he wanted too! His logic was actually pretty cute…”mommy I want a little sister because we already have 2 boys and we need another girl”.

So it begins…Brooklyn is 4 months old and someday will be doing girly things and I will have the best of both worlds. I will not get that label of “boy mom” or “girl mom”, I will just be mom and I am happy with that.
